Beste mensen,
Nadat ik vandaag mij geregistreerd had en een topic had gemaakt over het zakhorloge van mijn vader, en super goed geholpen ben… vertelde ik tegen mijn beste maat / huisgenoot die uit Finland komt over dit forum.
Nu blijkt dat hij ook een zakhorloge heeft met een probleem. Hij heeft mij gevragen of ik hem wilde helpen doormiddel van zijn vraag hier te posten. Zijn Nederlands is niet 100% maar hij heeft een tekst opgezet in NL en EN die is als volgt:
Hallo allemaal. Ik ben Mika en kom uit Finland. Ik heb mijn Svalan Lyx-zakhorloge gekregen als afstudeercadeau van het gymnasium in 1992. Ik zag de snelle, behulpzame en vriendelijke reactie op Jan’s bericht. Dus ik wil ook mijn geluk beproeven. Ik zou graag meer willen weten over mijn zakhorloge, de potentiële waarde ervan en of het de moeite waard is om te repareren. Ik zal de beschrijving in het Engels schrijven (sorry).
Description of the pocketwatch:
- Open-face skeleton watch by Swedish watchmaker Svalan, maybe from 1970’s. Material gold-lookalike yellow non-ferrous mystery metal.
- Stem-wind, stem-set movement with shock protection system by Swiss maker Incabloc SA.
- Text in front: “Svalan Lyx, 17 JEWELS SWISS INCABLOC”.
- Engraved in the movement frame surface, on the backside, cardinal direction WSW, left and below the large (ratchet?) wheel: “XXADJUSTED”. XX represents unreadable characters, because the decorative black silkscreen printing (faux filigree?) overlaps the engraving.
- Engraved inside of the movement frame, visible from the backside, cardinal direction SE: “S491” or “5491”, the first letter not completely visible.
- No other text or markings found.
- I received the pocketwatch as is, without packaging, manual or a chain.
- I have used the pocketwatch only in limited occasions in the 90’s, and always wore it in its intended location: the vest pocket and secured with a chain. I have never dropped it, it doesn’t have any visible scratches or wearage and it works nicely apart from the impossibility of setting the time. It is as shiny and neat as it was back in 1992.
Description of the breakage:
- It is not possible to set the time anymore. Somewhere in late 90’s the stem became loose or detached.
- When the crown is in the normal down position, it holds its place and the pocketwatch can be winded.
- When pulling the crown up to set the time, one can feel the stem touching and dragging on to other parts. But after 2-3 mm movement the stem comes completely loose (I have never dared to pull it out completely). The stem is firmly attached to the crown, though.
- I have absolutely no idea how the stem connects to the movement (dial train?).
- I have an educated guess how it became loose: the crown might have been caught in the pocket liner and then accidentally loosened the stem. Or maybe there was a losely connected screw, which surrendered slowly over the decades.
Met mijn ongetrainde oog blijkt het nog in prima conditie te zijn.
