Swatch Unit Cuts Jobs in Malaysia, Moves Production to Thailand

May 13 (Bloomberg) – Swatch Group AG, the world’s largest
watchmaker, will cut 500 jobs in Malaysia at ETA SA, its watch
components division, because of diminishing sales and falling
prices.
ETA will cut the jobs by the end of this year and move
production to its site in Thailand, the Biel, Switzerland-based
company said in a faxed statement today. A social plan for the
staff has been set up and they will receive help finding new
jobs, the company said.
