De afgelopen weken heb ik een groot aantal horloges verkocht om langgezocht horloge te kunnen kopen: de Sinn 156B die ik o.a. heb laten zien in Utrecht. Ik was goed en wel thuis toen er iets anders langskwam dat ik ook errug graag wil(de) hebben: een Sinn 142 Gz Tides.
Een Duitse medeforummer op TZ-UK bood 'm te koop aan en ik heb 'm kunnen overhalen om het horloge voor me te bewaren tot het midden van deze week. Dus ik heb als een razende weer een serie horloges verkocht om niet te veel te hoeven investeren met ‘nieuw’ geld. En dat is gelukt. Zojuist de deal gesloten.
De Sinn 142 Gz Tides kent een moderne broer: de 142 Gz S2 (van 'series 2) met een Dubois-Dupraz caliber. Eerder dit jaar heb ik dit horloge bij Gerard in de zaak om mijn pols gehad. Ik was er helemaal weg van! Toen ik 'm op diverse fora toonde, werd ik al gewezen op het bestaan van de originele uitvoering, met het Lemania 5100 uurwerk. En die vond ik nog mooier! .
Wat informatie: de 142 was een horloge dat in diverse uitvoeringen is uitgebracht. In alle gevallen met een Lemania 5100 onder de motorkap. Veel lezenswaardige info over Sinn (en in het bijzonder de 142 staat hier: http://sinn-uhren.info/index.html).

The Tides Sinn.
Okay - here is what I know.
It is a simple customisation of a standard 142. Only the bezel differs from the normal version. No difference in casebacks, code numbering, or anything else. It is not a “limited edition” in any true sense, no definitive number produced and so forth.
It works in conjunction with the hour hand, and it merely tells you when the occurance of the next tide is. Once that tide cycle is complete, the bezel must be reset to read any further ahead, most normally by moving the HW1 marker to where the HW2 marker was, giving you the indication for the tide cycle following the current one.
As such, it is a pretty useless (although attractive) complication, as nothing is mechanised and one has to be near the tide tables every 12 hours or so to reset it, or advance the bezel twice a day.
As a watch, it seems it was pretty universal in the 142 range. My guess is that it was a complication available (probably by special order) throughout the time that the 142 was offered. At any time there may be one or two availalbe in the european market, but sometimes you might have to wait a couple of months before one comes up.
Rarity? No idea. I am not sure even Sinn will be able to tell you how many they made. Maybe only 5% of the 142s I see have one of the complications (GMT hand, Tide, countdown hand etc). I guess I have seen about 5-10 different tide versions (lemania-powered) come up in the last 3 years.
Value? Well, I might differ a bit here from the norm. I regard this as a quirky little customisation, which adds little function, at the expense of the more useful minute bezel. It does however lighten the watch with a splash of colour, perhaps more suited to the earlier cases with polished and brushed finish.
However, the market seems to think that they are a fascinatingly rare and interesting Sinn, and a must-have for true Sinn collectors. Sellers certainly do. They are under the impression that it was a rare model, produced for a short time, which I am convinced is not the case. I am sure it was a special order available for a long period, but not produced in large numbers “for stock”. Perhaps it would be best to ask a long-standing Sinn AD, perhaps like Gerard Nijenbrinks (whom you know, I think).
Prices asked are generally more than standard 142s, but I am not totally sure why.[/b]
Zo’n aankoop vergoed een hoop voor het gez*ik dat ik heb met een verdwenen Sumo. Voorlopig ben ik wel even uitgekocht trouwens.
