The Grand Seiko SLGB003 from the Evolution 9 Collection received the prestigious “Best of the Best” distinction in the Product Design category at the Red Dot Design Award 2026.

Seiko heeft merkambassadeur Shohei Ohtani de Star Time geschonken, een uniek polshorloge dat via vijf gelaagde, draaiende schijven de cumulatieve tijd tot een miljoen uur kan weergeven.
Het technische principe is al met al niet zo ingewikkeld: de Star Time houdt de cumulatieve tijd bij tot een miljoen uur — iets meer dan 114 jaar. Vijf gelaagde, roterende schijven zorgen voor de weergave, waarbij elke schijf verantwoordelijk is voor een ander bereik: 24 uur, 1.000 uur, 10.000 uur, 100.000 uur en 1.000.000 uur. De binnenste schijf fungeert tevens als indicator voor de huidige tijd. Elke schijf is voorzien van een diamant. De schijven bewegen te langzaam om met het blote oog waar te nemen; hieraan ontleent het horloge zijn naam „Star Time“. Het lijkt sterk op de onmerkbare beweging van sterren aan de hemel, tenzij deze in een time-lapse wordt vastgelegd. Seiko stelt dat dit het enige polshorloge ter wereld is dat op deze manier tot wel één miljoen uur kan weergeven.
