I am not a Navy Seal, a Texas Ranger, or a member of any Special Force, and I do not have to defend our western freedom and values as a daily routine. Furthermore I am as much operating behind enemy lines as my fellow Dutch countrymen, except a few soldiers strutting about in far away places, and except the usual amount of Dutch expats. In the dark hours I spend most of the time in bed, especially in summer.
I bought my Nite MX10-201 because I like to know what time it is in general, and specifically when I wake up in the middle of the night at natures call while camping out with (very old) high school friends, and to end the dispute that arises sometimes during these occasions about what is the date. My regular timepiece, made by a big and well reputed Swiss factory, guided by Mr. Hayek through many turbulent years, and as a piece de resistance as humble as any gentleman could wish, and apart from that making the bearer being well accepted everywhere, did not fulfill these tasks to satisfaction, except giving the exact time,
To be honest, I fell for the looks of the MX-10 line, hook and sinker.
Of all bulky watches it is one of the less bulky, and while wearing it at semi-official occasions it does hardly generate the wish of other participants to see me in a rubber diving suit with flippers, goggles and air bottles, nor camouflaged to oblivion.
It is a good watch. It fits snugly to my wrist, and I am satisfied with my purchase so far.
In spite of the GTSL luminance I could not read a newspaper at night with the help of my new piece, as some critics experienced, but then I seldom read a newspaper when I have decided to spend my time at other activities.
Delivery was quick and without any problem, taking into account a Dutch Boxing Day combined with a weekend and some chaos due to changes in our postal system.
Also pre-sales service was excellent, even when I had to pay twice, including double bank charges by consequence, because freight had been forgotten to be added at total costs in the invoice, and because I had already paid this one promptly as a good customer. A second invoice came the following day. My proposal to even the freight with a strong and influential promotion of Nite-watches at crucial and very important institutions like pensioner-resorts and school playing grounds in my country made no impression on sales department; I had to make a second remittance.
Do not believe what Nite says about adjusting date and time in their manual.
Adjusting time needs full extraction of the crown (position II). The watch stops, and time can be adjusted with the help of a radio controlled clock, or the owner can synchronize with high-command during military operations or junta-headquarters during a military coup. I.e., the manual gives the right information for adjusting time.
While adjusting date you need only extract the crown halfway (position I). Of course the watch should not stop then, as the Nite-manual says; otherwise the proud owner is obliged to adjust time every other month, except August and December. The Ronda 505-movement datasheet however gives correct information: the watch does not stop with crown in halfway position, as the owner will experience to his satisfaction, but alas, only after purchase.
If it turns out now that I have an old manual it could mean the watch is dated. This is perhaps why I am not able to read a newspaper in the dark with the help of my MX-10. The half-life decay time of Tritium is 12.32 years, which seems a long time, but possibly not enough. I should perhaps be prepared to see the end of battery life in a few months.
I tried to get in contact with Nite International about these perplexities, partly to be able to give them advice concerning their manual, but they did not answer even after a month. Perhaps a correct answer is not included in their after sales servicing, or the manual is re-written some time ago, and sales does not bother to spread the news. Also there could be some fear at the service-department that a comment on my newspaper-experience would inevitably end up in an advice what newspaper to read, and of what delineation.
FAQ gives no clue also.
