Swatch’s Moon ESTA contain potential EASTer eggs ![]()
Most questionnaires use numbers only for navigation. Swatch’s MISSION TO THE MOON 1969 ESTA may use them as clues.
Even the two-hour-and-fifteen-minutecompletion limit appears meaningful: it closely matches the time from Neil Armstrong’s first step on the Moon to his return to the lunar module. That sets the tone for a questionnaire built around hidden references to Apollo time.
The pattern begins with food.
Question 7: The mission that changed space dining
Question 7 asks:
“What would you eat on a trip to the Moon?”
Its position suggests Apollo 7, the first American space mission on which hot food was available. Heated water was used to rehydrate packaged meals, a significant improvement over the cold and compressed foods of earlier missions.
The destination is the Moon, so Apollo 7 supplies the food connection while Apollo 11 supplies the menu. A historically grounded answer is:
A hot Apollo meal: shrimp cocktail, beef and potatoes, and chocolate pudding, as served to the Apollo 11 crew.
Apollo 7 explains why the question appears at number seven; Apollo 11 provides the Moon-bound meal.
Question 11: Apollo 11, the Speedmaster and the mathematics of speed
Question 11 asks when NASA selected the OMEGA Speedmaster as its official watch. The factual answer is: 1965
But the screen also displays: 11/32
The first interpretation is straightforward:
11 evokes Apollo 11.
32 preserves Apollo 11’s launch minute.
The watch is therefore connected to both the mission that made it the Moonwatch and the minute when that mission began.
The fraction itself produces a more surprising result:
11 ÷ 32 = 0.34375
Expressed as a speed:
0.34375 km/s = 343.75 m/s
That is almost exactly the typical speed of sound in Earth’s atmosphere: approximately 343 m/s.

11/32 → 343.75 m/s → approximately Mach 1
This appears on a question about the Speedmaster, a chronograph whose tachymeter scale is designed to convert elapsed time into speed.
There is also a looser Apollo connection. Lunar-return spacecraft entered Earth’s atmosphere at roughly 11 km/s, or more than thirty times the speed of sound—approximately Mach 32 under some assumptions. The alignment is therefore striking:
11: Apollo 11
32: the launch minute
11/32: approximately the speed of sound
Question subject: the Speedmaster
These associations do not replace the answer 1965, but they may explain why the Speedmaster question was deliberately placed at number 11.
Question 12: The visionary and the man who saved Apollo 12
Question 12 asks: “Whom would you take with you on a trip to the Moon?”
Two men fit its position unusually well.
The first is John F. Kennedy, who committed the United States to landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely before the end of the 1960s. Taking him would allow the architect of the goal to witness its fulfilment.
His name also provides a numerical confirmation:
JOHN F KENNEDY = 12 letters
The second possibility is John Aaron, whose connection is directly tied to Apollo 12.
Shortly after liftoff, Apollo 12 was struck twice by lightning. Telemetry became scrambled and major spacecraft systems appeared to fail. Aaron recognised the pattern and recommended the now-famous instruction: “SCE to AUX.”
Alan Bean located the obscure switch, the telemetry returned, and Apollo 12 continued safely to the Moon.
Kennedy represents the vision; Aaron represents the knowledge and calm judgment needed to survive the journey. The question number supports both interpretations: Kennedy’s twelve-letter name and Aaron’s defining role in Apollo 12.
A combined answer could be: John F. Kennedy for the dream, with John Aaron on the headset to make sure we reached the Moon and returned safely home.
Question 13: The place Apollo 13 never reached
Question 13 asks:
“Where would you land on the Moon?”
Its position immediately evokes Apollo 13, the mission that was supposed to land but never did.
The simplest answer would be: Nowhere—Apollo 13 never landed.
But the word “would” points toward the mission’s intended destination: Fra Mauro
Apollo 13 was scheduled to explore the Fra Mauro region. After an oxygen-tank explosion forced NASA to cancel the landing, the site was reassigned to Apollo 14.
The number 13 recurs throughout the story: the explosion occurred on April 13, 1970, creating the crisis remembered through the transmission, “Houston, we’ve had a problem.”
The screen also displays: 13/32
This can be read in two ways:
13 evokes Apollo 13.
13/32 visually forms 13:32, Apollo 11’s UTC launch time.
The question therefore combines Apollo 13’s unrealised landing with Apollo 11’s launch timestamp.
The strongest answer is: Fra Mauro—where Apollo 13 would have landed before the oxygen-tank explosion on April 13 changed the mission.
Question 21: An artist whose name completes the question
Question 21 asks:
“Name an artist Swatch should work with.”
There are countless possible answers, but one artist fits the question’s position exactly: 21 Savage
The answer creates a direct number–name correspondence: Question 21 → 21 Savage
Unlike the Apollo references, this clue is not historical. It is pure puzzle construction: the number beside the question becomes part of the answer.
Swatch has a long tradition of working with artists, so the response also fits the brand’s creative identity. The question number does not prove that 21 Savage is the only intended answer, but it gives the choice a structural advantage over an artist selected at random.
Questions 15 and 32: The hidden timestamp
Question 15 asks for the US dollar–Swiss franc exchange rate on 21 July 1969. The correct answer is: 1 USD = 4.31 CHF
But the counter above it reads: 15/32
Read as a time, it becomes 15:32—the exact time at which Swatch opened the application in Switzerland on the Apollo 11 launch anniversary. That corresponds to 13:32 UTC, Apollo 11’s actual launch time.
Question 32 then asks why the application contains 32 questions. The likely answer is that the denominator was needed to make Question 15 display 15/32.
Because Apollo 11 lifted off at 13:32 UTC, and Swatch opened the application at the corresponding 15:32 CEST. With exactly 32 questions, Question 15 becomes 15/32—a hidden timestamp in plain sight.
The numbers do not always tell the participant what to answer. They do something subtler:
