Vind hem wel erg mooi eigenlijk
Eindelijk iemand gevonden die kan uitleggen hoe het komt dat Timex een Jumping Minute aanbood in een Quartz:
"I have collected around 30 examples of these watches over the years including the M43/4 versions. The modules are identical with the only difference being the 43/4 has a smaller battery compartment (AG5 size) than the 55/6 (AG12 size) which allows it to be fitted to ladies size cases, though some still found their way into gents watches.
The 44 and 56 are the respective dated versions. There are some very minor circuitry differences in 79/80 modules but most people wouldn’t even notice them. These modules were never intended to be repaired and while possible to fix such things as busted battery connectors, their construction makes other repairs difficult if not impossible. The quartz oscillator can be changed without too much difficulty but they very rarely prove to be a source of failure.
In general, these modules though produced to a strict budget have proved to be very reliable. One potential weakness in the module is the two tiny coil wires which are soldered to the circuit board just to the side of the rocker arm. Touch these with any force at all and they will break and are virtually impossible to repair,so be very careful when prodding or poking around.
Also the battery contacts (especially the smaller positive connector) are very fragile and easily broken. The biggest source of failure is the IC, located under a small black plastic cover. There are tiny wirebonds coming from this to the circuit board but invariably it seems to be the IC itself that fails. Several of mine were bought as non runners but most actually worked fine.
The trouble is many people do not understand how they operate, insert a battery and when nothing happens for a few seconds, assume the watch is broken, aided by the fact there can be no seconds hand to watch.
There can be no doubt countless working examples have been discarded by ignorant owners and while not yet an endangered species, their numbers will doubtless continue to dwindle.
They were assembled in Taiwan with most of the dials and cases exported from Dundee. Production ran for about 18 months from mid 1978 to very early 1980 when the Taiwan factory closed and no examples were ever made once Timex had moved production to the Philippines.
These watches are totally unique and are seriously underrated in my view. By their nature, setting them is obviously going to be a compromise as the minute hand only moves every 60 seconds, so continuous accuracy is obviously not possible. I set mine so it advances the minute hand 30 seconds early, at which point the watch will be 30 seconds fast. Like I said,a compromise but once set, they are incredibly accurate, with virtually no time drift at all, thanks to it having no moving gears.
The audible clack when the minute hand progresses is a very satisfying sound. Once the crown is pulled to set the time/date the 60 second countdown ceases and then resumes from zero once the crown is pushed home. Had these watches been produced by certain other manufacturers they would be selling for serious money.
As it is, they are absolute bargains, and can often be found for 20 quid or less. No other watch on the planet does what these do and who ever came up with the idea was, in my view,a frickin genius. If you see one for sale then buy it, you won’t be disappointed (assuming it works). One thing you can guarantee is in buying one of these watches it will be the genuine article.
This is the one watch where I don’t think even Timex would dare to try to pass off their usual half baked attempt at convincing people any reproduction in any way resembles the original. You simply cannot reproduce this watch".
