waarom cijfer in spiegelbeeld?

Dag Iedereen,

There is reverse writing on the dial “for photographic purposes” (the negative of the picture would show the actual seconds when something was timed). There are pictures of a reverse dial being used for timing the burn time of the V-2 rocket but my friend Konrad Knirim says that the WSS was not involved in the V-2 rocket. The WSS watches were delivered to the artillery school of the SS, so maybe the dial was used to time artillery trajectory or burn time in seconds of rockets, take a picture for some type of documentation?

Application:
In 1940 the offices of the Waffen-SS ordered Lange & Söhne, to develop an observation watch for measuring purposes with stop function for the second hand and 1/5 sec luminous indication. This led to this large diameter of the dial. For negative photographic the seconds should additional be mirrored. A few letters by Lange to the SS indecates this. After some first items in silver case there should be supplied 10 watches per month starting in march 1941.

The mirrored indication shows the use in a navigation instrument and for easier recognition on negative film. The instrument where it was used in is still not identified, though I spent much time for the research in a lot of German archives. The watch was not really designed for wearing at the wrist, maybe only for safe transport. Maybe these informations was all confiscated by the allies at warend.
