Vers van de pers. Enkele minuten geleden werd een bijzondere Nomos Club voorgesteld. Onderaan dit bericht de originele (Engelstalige) persinfo en foto’s.
Om het nieuws even kort samen te vatten, de basis betreft een Nomos Club 36mm met de volgende unieke aanpassingen:
- zwarte sunburst dial
- rode secondewijzer
- Nomos Alpha loopwerk, in dit geval als eerste Club uitgerust met het door Nomos ontwikkelde “Nomos Swing System” echappement
- waterdicht tot 200m (!)
De aandacht voor detail blijkt ondermeer uit het feit dat de kroon niet geschroefd is. Dit zou je kunnen verwachten van een horloge met 20 atm waterdichtheid maar een geschroefde kroon op een handwinder is natuurlijk verre van ideaal wegens slijtage en mogelijke menselijke gebruikersfout. Nee, de kroon op deze versie is dubbel geseald om dit resultaat te verkrijgen. Hierdoor is deze Club dubbel zo resistent als een normale Club en zou je het zelfs als duiker kunnen gebruiken.
Ook de keuze voor de 36mm kast is opvallend te noemen maar past in de huidige trend van meer bescheiden kast formaten. Uit ervaring weet ik trouwens dat een Club in de praktijk groter uitvalt dan je eerst verwacht, waarschijnlijk door het strakke Bauhaus design van de wijzerplaat.
Als toetje op de taart wordt er ook nog een mooie Nomos Sundial meegeleverd. Jeweetwel, dat unieke zonnewijzertje dat Nomos heeft ontworpen.
Voor de Nomos verzamelaars/fans onder ons, er zijn slechts 21 exemplaren beschikbaar en die zijn allemaal genummerd… Met een dergelijk laag aantal zijn ze waarschijnlijk reeds allemaal vergeven op het moment dat je dit leest. Maar er zitten hier op het forum natuurlijk ook vele Nomos fans dus misschien toch leuk om te melden?

Atelier DE GRIFF is a creative studio, fueled by curiosity and a passion for horology. We are inspired by mechanical timekeeping machines and the people that create them.
Founded in 2017, our initial focus was on designing and creating bespoke watch accessories. Gradually, we ventured beyond the confines of our atelier and we expanded into online content creation. We then started organizing watch events with brands and retailers, for our friends and fellow watch enthusiasts. Today marks another special moment, as we continue wandering further down the horological rabbit hole.
On our journey, through the peculiar world of horology, we have been very fortunate to create new connections and forge lasting friendships. We have also learned a thing or two about what makes a watch stand the test of time. As a result, we are beyond proud to present the result of our collaboration with the fantastic people at NOMOS Glashütte: the Atelier DE GRIFF x NOMOS Glashütte Club 36 Limited Edition . A limited edition NOMOS Club in 36mm with custom caliber, custom specs and custom dial.
NOMOS Glashütte is the largest manufacturer of mechanical timepieces in Germany. An independent manufacture known for making high quality watches, with a crystal-clear identity and a strong design language. For this limited edition with NOMOS Glashütte we wanted to embrace what makes NOMOS so unique and highlight that in this watch with the DE GRIFF touch.
We started with imagining the unthinkable: What if you could have only one watch in your collection? What could be a perfect one watch collection?
We selected the NOMOS Club as our canvas. A modern icon by NOMOS Glashütte. We opted for the Club in 36mm, which is not the obvious choice in today’s watch world. It is the right choice according to us. It has a versatile 36mm by 8.2mm stainless steel case design, and a lug-to-lug size of approximately 47mm. These proportions are right on target for a watch that seeks to answer the fundamental ‘only watch’ question.
Talking about a one watch collection, such a watch should be able to go anywhere and do anything. As a result, the watch needs to meet a broad range of requirements. From a practical perspective that means we must consider water resistance. On this limited edition we added a new crown with a double gasket . The crown, in combination with the screwed in bottom of the Club case, allows us to double the standard water resistance to 200 meters. A first for the Club 36.
In keeping with the theme, we have also opted for a stainless steel bracelet . The design of this bracelet simply screams NOMOS and also wears very comfortably on the wrist. It features a slide clasp allowing for quick adjustment. The links are brushed and the NOMOS clasp is highly polished. For maximum versatility, the bracelet features quick release spring bars, which makes swapping straps very easy.
Moving past the case & bracelet properties, we then need to talk about the face of the watch. Presented with a myriad of options we opted for a sunburst black dial which is another first for the 36mm Club. The sunburst effect is first applied on the blank brass dials. This is then followed by metallic refinement with ruthenium in an electroplating bath. Afterwards, a black cellulose lacquer is applied. As a result, we end up with a warm sunburst effect unlike any other. The soft sunburst effect appears almost matte in broad daylight and it springs to life as soon as an indirect light source hits the dial.
The numerals and indexes are printed and given a generous application of Superluminova. The same treatment is given to the hour and minute hands. Finally, to add a subtle splash of color, we opted for a warm red color for the seconds hand.
Having discussed the choice of the face of the watch, we need to talk about what makes this watch tick. We opted for a manually wound Alpha caliber with a twist . The Alpha caliber is NOMOS’ very first caliber and a proven work horse. The in-house Alpha caliber boasts a 43 hour power reserve. It is a Glashütte caliber which means you are greeted by typical Glashütte characteristics such as a Glashütte three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, and Glashütte sunburst decorations on the ratchet and crown wheel. The tempered blue screws add a nice splash of color.
Aiming for something truly special for our limited edition, we added a twist to the tried and tested Alpha caliber. We went straight to the heart of the matter and changed the standard escapement. NOMOS is one of very few watchmakers that knows how to make their own escapement. NOMOS refers to their escapement as the “NOMOS swing system” and it is something that they are rightly very proud of. A standard Alpha caliber does not feature the swing system just yet. However, we’re proud to say that for this limited edition the swing system has been integrated in the Alpha caliber. You can recognize this thanks to the blue hairspring, visible through the display case back.
Everything said and done, this is essentially the Club we’ve always wanted. The Atelier DE GRIFF x NOMOS Glashütte Club 36 Limited Edition is available now for a very attractive price of EUR 1549. Celebrating the year of their release (2021) only 21 will be made and are exclusively available at atelierdegriff.com. This watch is not just a watch, but a celebration. As a result, each watch will ship with a special little gift: The NOMOS Sundial ring in stainless steel, with laser-cut time and month markers.
