Nou, ik heb gezien dat zo snel je lid wordt doe je een topic openen. Daarin spreek je over jezelf.
Let’s drop the act.
Became a silent member July last year, since I saw a very nice Tag Heuer WAN2111 by @Andrew . Words became action and I bought a nice stainless steel sports watch I had not had anymore.
Came to the NL in 2018 and started my promotietrajekt. At the time, all I had was 1500,00EUR, a Rolex 114270 I inherited, the best terrorist watch ever, and a Cartier Tank Must Large that I bought when I though I would continue my career in my chosen industry. You could see where my priorities lay. Nonetheless, given I am a foreigner and therefore a leech, the 30% regeling and a stringent “don’t buy watches” was a nice touch. Some luck with certain positions and selling the Rolex at an overinflated price during the Corona gold rush allowed my wife and me to buy a house in October 2020 at the height of low mortgage rates.
In the beginning, taalschool in den Haag was intense, but manageable. It all went down the crapper during Corona, so bully me. That, with the fact my colleagues and collaborators are international and talk English all the time, with the extra bonus of my promotors wanting to squeeze out as many published articles out of me as possible, means I will have to continue my Dutch lessons from A2 onwards (vergelijking de 1. NL taalniveau) after I defend my PhD.
Anyway, I am not crazy about watches, I just think they’re neat. In the end, it’s just male jewelry, just like a Porsche is extension of ones appendage, whether they are too short and must thus compensate (unlikely in the NL), or their manhood is suffering (raise your hands!). Still, during my University years I had loads of fun buying <30E former CCCP (USSR) watches that would randomly stop working 1 week - 3 years later haha.
God I miss those simple days.
Having said that, here my modest collection. I am looking to offload the Cartier (Tank Must Large, WSTA0041, 2022).
Btw, de buitenlanders altijd zeggen dat Nederlands een vuile taal is. Tegen hen zeg ik: rot op. Nergens anders kunt je vinden een perfecte melange van Engels, Duits en Deens
And one from the Uni years. Raketa 4571240 from 1983 I believe. The one that died in 3 weeks.
